GUIDE TO NCLEX FOR INTERNATIONAL NURSES IN US

STEP 1.
1-First get your ID and Social security number (processing approx. 1month) and you must have your green card (processing time approx. 6 month) www.uscis.gov
2-Choose which state you want to apply for??
You can check www.cgfns.org as they have many options of which state you need. Cgfns will send your transcript to only one state, if you want to transfer to other state then you need to pay fee. (processing approx. 8-10months)
3- Some state require English proficiency test like TOEFL/IELTS so you can choose other state like California or NY, which doesn’t need one.

4-If you choose New York they have 2 more requirements like Child abuse and Infection control. Check www.op.nysed.gov
5- Incase your Green card has printed your name as FNU(first name unknown) , that’s because in India we don’t follow first or last name..
You can change it to your original name here without pay www.uscis.gov

6- After choosing a state, know that some state has more requirement.
The 2 most impt document needed are- Transcript from school and Licensing from state. Choose btw www.cgfns.org , www.op.nysed.gov OR www.rn.ca.gov
(I personally did California BRN but I would refer New York more then California-as CaBRN doesn’t participate in www.nursy.com and also its more expensive as well as slow process)
*You can take NCLEX from any place and live in another state in USA.
Once you pass the test, you can transfer your license by endorsement to place you want to work and practice nursing.

Checklist ;;
A- Pay the fee (approx. $200)
B- After you fill the with Licensure by examination ,you can do online or a mail.
C- Refer each state for other requirement as California BRN will ask for hard card Fingerprint, some ask for 2x2 passport Color picture.
D- send your copies nursing documents of diploma or degree and IDs
E- Transcript from school- breakdown of educational nursing programs.
.once you get mail of the application form, you can send to your school (in India) and the school will send your transcript to the state you have applied in US.
You can send the other application Form to the state in India like if you studied in Karnataka, check www.ksnc.in .. the state will take a fee and send it to US (to the state you applied).. The Karnataka state of nursing ask for video conference for verification and make appointment online.
G- Once all your documents are submitted the state will review and will send you a mail if you are ok to go through or they will let you know if you need more requirements. You can call to the customer care as they will help you with all the questions.
STEP 2
Register with Pearson Vue is register for NCLEX
This is a company which that host the NCLEX, they run the testing center -computerized adaptive test (CAT) www.ncsbn.org/nclex
NCSBN- National council of state board of nursing who creates the NCLEX questions.
A- Pay fee $200 and make an account.www.pearsonvue.com
B-within 2 office days they will send you email for ATT
*ATT-Authorization for test (valid a year)- one should take NCLEX at least a year, if you fail, you can take after 45 days or it valid a year.
STEP 3
Prepare for NCLEX
A-use free review from YouTube and free NCLEX style question from Apps
B- best is to take review courses from top company(approx. $300-500) like KAPLAN,,HURST, ATI,HESI ( you can do one and if one doesn’t help do other one) and QBank like SAUNDERS & UWORLD (approx. $100)

STEP 4
Schedule your NCLEX date
A- PAY fee $200 and take the test.
B-if you schedule before 2months you will get your choice of date and time,,(best day is tuesday-friday- good farm of rescheduling) or whenever and take the test and get your result.
STEP 5
Getting your result
If you took exam in California - wait for their mail (within a week Or two.)
